Jane Frenzel Dances to Support Atascadero Library Technology Updates
Article by Grenda Ernst

She came to watch and stayed to dance! Jane Frenzel is a Community Star, dancing on behalf of the Friends of the Atascadero Library in its 2018 production of Dancing With Our Stars. Jane's first DWOS experience was in 2017, when she attended to watch her daughter, dancer Kara Frenzel, star in a show-stopping performance of "Material Girl." Jane was so impressed with the event, and with the platform it provides for projects being funded by North County non-profits, that she knew she wanted to be part of this community event.

Jane was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley and worked her way north, arriving in the Central Coast in 2007. She tells us, "I love living where people go on vacation and where I can go grocery shop and then stop into a winery for a concert or a wine tasting." She loves the music-in-the-park venues, running into people she knows, being able to get to the beach in 20 minutes, and being within easy reach of hiking and lakes. It is obvious that Jane knows what makes the Central Coast so special.

Jane has four children, three of whom live in this area. In another article, we will hear more about daughter Kara, who is the choreographer/partner for Community Star Scott Rosenblum. All of Jane's sons have computer backgrounds so she values the fact that the funds she raises will be used to update Atascadero Library technology and other programs. Jane's own background is insurance: she has been part of the insurance industry for 35 years and is a Field Sales Manager for Nationwide Insurance, working with agents from Thousand Oaks to Paso Robles, and over to Kern County. Her community service includes matching funds from Nationwide through her contributions to United way, and her contributions to RISE and to United Blood Services. She has traveled extensively all over the world and one of her upcoming trips to Asia involves an elephant rescue project.

This mother-daughter dancing duo is a first for DWOS and we are looking forward to getting to know another member of the talented Frenzel family. Jane's partner and choreographer, Christopher Ellwood, is well-known to DWOS audiences. He first became involved in Dancing with Our Stars in 2013, when he joined as the Professional partner to his star Dr. Janet Kershaw-McLennan. Janet and Christopher's Viennese Waltz performance won both the People's Choice and Encore Championship prize. Christopher has performed in a guest professional dancer in the 2016 and 2017 DWOS shows and looks forward to competing again this year with his star Jane.

Christopher has 18 years of experience performing, teaching, and competing in all Ballroom and Latin dances. Since 2003, he has been the head coach and instructor for the award winning Cal Poly Ballroom Dance Team. In 2007, he had the vision to start Cal Poly's annual Mustang Ball DanceSport competition which has been an annual tradition ever since, drawing hundreds of competitors from across California and surrounding states to compete in all Ballroom, Latin, and Nightclub dance styles. It is the biggest competitive dance event in San Luis Obispo county. Christopher has competed in the Championship level in both Smooth and Rhythm styles and was a Championship-level Nine-dance finalist at the 2011 USA Dance National Championships.
